Welcome
You are about to embark on
a radical journey to the very core of your existence. Each day of this
week, you will be challeged to complete a step in this adventure.
You will work individually, with your partner, with
your team, and meet with your teacher. There are activities involving reading,
researching, analyizing, concluding, summarizing, illustrating, and presenting.
And, of course their will be assessments.
Your Mission
Explore all the links on the lesson page
to obtain the tools you will need, and to review relevant information to
complete the journey. Meet all your appointments. The outcomes
are designed to take you a step closer to your particular needs for graduation.
You will learn more abut these Reading Tools, be able to identify and name
the Tools, and be able to select, read, and explain them.
Step 1 - Monday
1. Print and complete
Questionaire 1 called What
in the World is a Text Feature?
2. Explore the
displays furished by the teacher. You will find the answers to your first
questionaire by
studying the displays
3. Be prepared
for a 9:45 a.m. debreifing with your teacher. Bring your questionaire and
a KWL sheet.
4. Complete the
KWL, as instructed, during the debreifing. File your worksheet, KWL, and
notes in your
Reading binder.
Step 2 - Tuesday
1. Group monitors
will pick up copies of the two worksheets for each team member. These are
stored
in the Reading Tub. They are named: What Did You Say to Do First?
and How Did It Happen?
2. Bring your
completed worksheets to the debreifing at 9:30 a.m.
3. Preview the
illustrations in your America Will Be text on pages 102-103 and
112-113. Be prepared
to share your observations at the debreifing.
4. Files your
worksheets and notes in your Reading binder.
Step 3 - Wednesday
Partner Activities
1. Using your
Coast To Coast text, make a comparison between pages 138-148.
2. Using your
America Will Be text, study the map on page 111 and describe what can be
learned from it.
3. Discuss your
findings with your partner, agree on your conclusion, and write your opinion.
Make a duplicate copy for each of you.
Team Activities
1. From your
America Will Be text, find a series of pages to illustrate the Text
Features.
2. Each
member of your team will represent one of the Text Features and present
two visual
examples. One will be from the textbook and the other will be from an electronic
source
(CD-Rom or Selected WEB sites listed below.)
3. Each team
member will record the accomplishments of the team and file this record
it the
Reading Binder.
Step 4 - Thursday
1. Meet with
the teacher, share team accomplishments.
2. Each student
will retell an episode of a story learned from the History or Reading text.
This story
will incldue at least one Text Feature and will be mounted on a 12" x 18"
sheet for display. (see
sample provided by the teacher)
Step 5 - Friday
1. Debriefing
at 8:30 a.m. to review the standard and the objectives for these weeks
lessons.
2. Review the
results of the individual, partner, and team activities.
3. Complete the
KWL chart.
4. Print and
complete the final Questionaire2.
5. Score the
final Questionaire and file it in your binder (Monitors will put binders
in the
Reading Center.)
