Welcome
This lesson will take you on a journey through several web sites, tests online, and culminate in your preparation of a professional looking cover letter. Your goal is to write a professional looking letter of application to an established business of your choice. In business especially, your first impression is vital to getting an interview for a job. This exercise will take you through the necessary steps to build a professional looking letter of application or "letter of intent." Your Mission
Part 2: Your next job is to visit 10 web sites. Your goal is to find at least one real position that you might like to apply for. Use the URL map provided (or print one out from the Teacher's Corner) to keep track of where you go and how you got there. You are trying to find an example that is close to the job you want to apply for. Finish the URL map and complete the questions provided and turn this in to complete section 2. Part 3: Using these letters as examples, word process a rough draft of your cover letter in MS Word and turn it in on 3.5" floppy. You must also turn in, using the rubric listed in Your Grade, the student evaluation handout sheet listing two other student evaluations of your letter. Part 4: Use the student edits and teacher comments to word process your rough draft into a finished letter. The finished letter will be assessed using the rubric listed in Your Grade. Take the two online tests again at http://quizlab2.funbrain.com/cgi-bin/ips.cgi. Culminating activity: Finished letters will be posted on the wall and critiqued by the entire class at the end of the unit.
