Introduction
Students will gain an understanding of the
geographical and socio-economical changes of ancient Egypt. Students develop
their research and critical thinking skills as they visit a variety of
web sites to learn about the different aspects of the Ancient Egyptians. In a
culminating activity they will research and write a report that describes
important dates, events, and inventions during the reign of their chosen pharaoh.

- An
Ancient Web Hunt: Students will use the Internet as a research tool
as they explore secondary and primary sources about Ancient Egypt.
Students will concentrate their research around the following areas:
Daily
Life, Social Pyramid,
Religion,
Writing System,
Inventions, and Primary Source
Documents. Students will fill in the research
worksheet as they visit the different sites.

Which Crown Should I Choose: Students will make a comparison
of Lower and Upper Egypt. Students will use their comparison
worksheet to help them develop an understanding of the differences
between Northern and Southern Egypt.
- Cartouche:
Students will examine the beginnings of the Egyptian writing system. They
will also discover how the rest of the world learned to break the Egyptian
code. Students will use their
cartouche
worksheet to create pictographs of their names to illustrate how
the Egyptian alphabet worked.
- ABC
Book: Students will fill out an ABC worksheet
on new words they learned throughout the Unit. They will create an ABC
book of Egyptian words with a well written paragraph explaining how each
word fits into Egyptian culture.

Report: Students will use all of the information they
have gathered to create an informational report on the reign of the ruler
they have chosen to research.
Assessment
Several
assessment measures will be used to determine students' growth for this
