Octopus Fact File:
* The octopus is a mollusk, an invertebrate animal
in the same catagory as clams, slugs, snails, and squids. Although it evolved
from a snail-like ancestor, at some point the octopus lost its shell.
* Like the eyes of vertebrates, octopuses' eyes have
cornea, iris, and retina. Experiments show that their eyes are capable
of shape discrimination, which may contribute to their ability to learn
simple tasks.
