Evergreen Home School Introduction
     Evergreen Home School is a homeschool program is a subsidiary of a small school district in Northern California. 
     Our homeschool curriculum is organized and planned by a credentialed teacher, and taught at home by families. This program gives families State Standards based lessons and guidance from an experienced teacher while allowing the flexibility and idividuality of education.

KINDERGARTEN 
     Kindergarten students are embarking on an exciting year in which they will learn the alphabet, know letter sounds, blend sounds to read short words, write upper and lower case letters, use phonic spelling to write stories, experiment with numbers and math, and move into an exciting world of learning.

1st GRADE 
     1st Grade is a year of growth and independence because your student will be reading:  blending sounds to make words, distinguishing short and long vowel sounds, recognizing the first 100 high frequency words.  They will write sentences, solve math problems, count money, tell time, and experience holidays and other cultures, as well as being active in Scientific exploration.

2nd GRADE 
     2nd Graders use their skills to read and write in all subject areas. They can write short stories and reports about Family History, Energy, the Seasons, Nutrition, and more.  They become more proficient in math:  adding and subtracting with regrouping, understand fractions, writing numerals to 1,000.  You'll have busy year with your 2nd Grader actively participating with your teaching.

3rd GRADE
     County history excites the year for your 3rd Grader, studying Native Americans, Early Settlers, natural features (earth materials, ecosystems), and more.  They will be reading and writing multi-syllabic words, enjoying many types of literature and prose, and writing stories and papers with more advanced style (topic sentences, detail, punctuation).  Multiplication and division facts become a part of the math program so that your student can solve the more advanced problems that come their way.

 4th GRADE 
     California History!  Your student experiences life in California from the Native Americans to Statehood.  They will be reading fluently understanding foreshadowing, cause/effect, inferences, conclusions and more in different types of literature.  Writing becomes more formal in style, adding paragraphs with central ideas and supporting details, compound sentences, and punctuation.

5th GRADE 
     5th Graders broaden thier horizons, moving from California History to a study of the United States.  Through the studies, your 5th Grader will be able to Write reports of information, essays, formal letters using complex sentences with figurative language and multiple paragraphs. He/she will investigate the scientific world as well:  Cells, planets, inventions, energy and motion... Math becomes more complex- exponents, mean, median, mode, converting fractions, positive and negative integers. 

6th GRADE 
     Ancient history is the yearly theme for your student at this age.  He/she will delve into the ancient world, studying religion, geography,government, and more for ancient cultures that left a mark on our world today (Mesopotamia, Egypt, to India and China).  6th graders are proficient readers and begin to learn the steps to thourough researching, notetaking and factual report writing.  Math brings more complex problem solving and computation.  Scientifically, your 6th grader continues to study the world around them (fossils, landforms, light and sound,...)

7th GRADE 
     7th Graders continue the study of Ancient history A.D.300-1500 detailing religion, geography, governments up thorugh the mystical times of the Medieval era and Renaissance.  Famous Scientists and "thinkers" of those times contribute to the Science curriculum for the year (Newton- Motion, energy; DaVinci- anatomical traits,...) Mathematically, your student will continue to grow, encountering more complex problems and computation. 

8th GRADE      
      In preparation for high school, your student will be actively envolved with algebra, complex writing and reading strategies.  Students in grade eight study the ideas, issues, and events from the framing of the Constitution up to World War I and will experiment with the Periodic Table, Chemistry of Living Systems, Atoms and Molecules, Density and Buoyancy, and more.
