Introduction
In this lesson the students will learn about the location, physical setting and the major individuals and / or groups that founded Old Shasta, a local historical landmark.
Subject: History
Topic: Old Shasta 
Grade Level: 3
Standards Addressed

5.4.2. Identify the major individuals and groups responsible for the founding of Old Shasta. 

Instructional Objectives
1. The student will identify and write 5 facts about Old Shasta.
2. The student will write a 3 page informational research paper about Old Shasta.
3. The student will create a poster that represents an area of interest surrounding Old Shasta. Student Activities
Introductory Activity
The students will complete a pretest about  Old Shasta.They will then participate in a whole class lesson about Old Shasta. 
   Enabling Activity(ies)
The students will be allowed to conduct research with aide or teacher help using the internet, library or other resources.


 Culminating Activity
The students will create a poster and an accompanying report detailing facts about Old Shasta.

Assessment
The students overall grade will be based upon the overall sum of each the 3 graded instructional objectives. Each part will be graded by a rubric.
