Death and Taxes

Using the information from the CDC sites on tobacco death rates (click here) and tobacco tax rates by state (click here), make a chart arranging the information by tax rates.Compare each state’s tax rates with the death rates.

1. What state has the lowest death rate from tobacco? Why?
2. Why do the states with the lowest taxes have such low taxes on tobacco? Give some examples.
3. When looking at the overall picture, is there a general correlation? If so, what is it?
4. What could be a source of error in trying to relate the death rates with the tax rates?
